Dominica Save the Children Fund NEEDS A DESKTOP COMPUTER URGENTLY...!!!
Dear ALL:
In a effort to build on our fund raising activities, The Dominica Save the Children Fund desperately needs a replacement desk top computer. Their PC died - hard drive bit the dust! Cannot be fixed.
Many of you have expressed a wish to sponsor children in DA and some have expressed the need for a online donation webpage. None of this can happen without a computer.
Keep in mind, those of you in the US - this donation is a tax writeoff !
Better give it to a useful cause than Uncle Sam! :)
Any help received in this department will be greatly appreciated.
Please contact me for more information. 615-207-1816 or kierahelpskids@comcast.net
God Bless

More Things To Love About Dominica
This last 3 weeks have just flown by, and one of the best things is that we just keep finding more and more lovely things about living here. The whole village seems to have taken us under their wing. Everyone is genuinely friendly and very proud that we love Dominica. Toucarie is a quiet spot and being on the Caribbean side of the island we avoid all the wild weather of the Atlantic side.

What Can You Do In 3 Weeks In Dominica
We arrived from St Lucia by ferry at 10 p.m. and our hire car was nowhere to be seen. An hour and a half (and an expensive taxi ride) later we were at the house with no water and no electricity. It was Sunday night and the next 2 days were public holidays - 30th anniversary of independence - so no hope of going anywhere or getting anything done.

Baroness Scotland will be UK Ambassador to USA
PM Gordon Brown is to send Britain’s first black woman Attorney General to work alongside Barack Obama as our next US Ambassador.
The News of the World has learned Baroness Scotland will move to Washington to take over the prized diplomatic post in the new year.
She will replace Sir Nigel Sheinwald, who infuriated Obama with a leaked letter to Downing Street in which he CRITICISED the President-elect and warned of a likely clash of views with the UK over Iran.

Dominica (Salisbury) - Why We Need YOUR Help!
The Salisbury Enhancement Committee (SEC) would like to extend its deepest appreciation to those who assisted in one way or another on all the projects throughout the village on Community Day of Service. We especially applaud those who turned up to assist with the project at the bayside, and those who were able to initiate their own projects in their respective areas within the community.
We see the need to continue the various projects and is therefore seeking the assistance of the general public especially the motorists, to complete the road projects. Our goal is to raise funds for the purchase of at least 200 bags of cement to complete, and assist with the various projects around the community.

Dominica (Salisbury) - A Well Supported Community Day Of Service: November 4th, 2008
On the day designated by the government as “National Community Day of Service”, more than 46 individuals from the community turned out to lend their support to efforts to rehabilitate the road leading from the highway to the bay side commonly known as “Batty Bay”.
The road, which is used by sea bathers, basketballers, fishermen, and mourners had been in a deplorable state due to Work in progresswear and tear, and water damage. The culverts, which were intended to prevent the flow of water over the road had for a long time remained blocked, as a result, forcing water to flow over the road. All of this was compounded by the excess growth of shrubbery along the sides of the road, making access to the area increasingly difficult.

It's all go in the Rainforests of Dominica
Would Tom Cruise choose to take a mud bath? His Hollywood hair and Rodeo Drive wardrobe couldn't cope with such squalor, right? Wrong. And Dave, a Dominican who divides his time between farming the land and taking visitors out into the private rainforest estate that surrounds his bright-yellow home, was eager to prove the point to me, leafing through a worn photo album to show me snaps of Cruise caked in thick mud.

Notes on African Influences In Dominica
The people of Africa who were brought across the Atlantic ocean to work on the sugar and coffee plantations of Dominica from the early 1700s up until 1807 came from West Africa, from areas inland beyond the coast in a region that extended from what is today Senegal down to Angola.

Memories From the Islands - Dominica Dress
In Dominica, November 3rd is Discovery Day; we also got independence 25 years ago on that day. Everybody speaks Patois French on that day, dresses up in their costume, dances and brings out all the produce of Dominica.
'Quadrille' dancing started by the slaves mimicking white Europeans dancing and putting all the different bits together; every group has their own dance. You wear the national costume with a starched petticoat and headdress. A headdress and lots of jewellery is important for the part."

Dominica Development Group, LLC
Welcome to Dominica Development Group, LLC.
Dominica Development Group, LLC is the ultimate consultanting firm serving both local and international clients alike. The idea of this company came to reality after the collaboration of two entreupeneurial minds. In 2006, Miguel Murphy conceptualized the idea of extracting products and services from the Commonwealth of Dominica, the nature island of Caribbean and distributing it to the international market at an affordable price. Hilroy Samuel's idea was aimed at promoting and developing the investment as well as production services in Dominica with international and technological influence.
As the reality of this merger emerged, new ideas and possibilites were formed in hopes of broadening the service potential of Dominica Development Group, LLC. The merging of these ideas has proven to be a productive move towards Dominica's Development.

Dominica 2008 Tourist Season Opens Today
Besides all the damages done to Dominica’s coastline by Hurricane Omar, the 2008 Tourist Season opened today (October 25th) as schedule. A week ago most people was skeptical whether or not the local authorities would be able to get the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth repaired in time to welcome the Emerald Princess - the ship of the season. But after lots of collaborative work by the Discover Dominica Authority and the Dominica Sea/Port Authority the Emerald Princess was able to dock safely, and hundreds of visitors were able to enjoy a the perfect tropical day. What a great day it was to welcome the new tourist season.
A heartfelt thanks to all guys at the Discover Dominica and the Dominica Sea/Port Authority who made a special effort to have everything ready, especially after all damages done by hurricane Omar. Thanks!!!

The island is experiencing heavy rainfall, scattered thunderstorms and high seas Thursday due to the effects of Category 1 Hurricane Omar.
Minister of Education Vince Henderson announced on State radio Thursday morning that there will be no classes for schools island wide, adding that the Chief Education Officer was advised accordingly.
Henderson urged school principals however that they should visit their schools when the bad weather has subsided.
