Take a look at the front page of this week The Sun Newspaper. It feature pictures of the four different artists the organizers of the annual World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) are dreaming of having – Rihanna, Akon, Sean Paul, and mega Star Usher.
There is no doubt that any one of these artists together with ‘traditional crowd pleasers from over the years like kassav, Taboo Combo, and Carimi can send this year World Creole Music Festival to the roof, and become one the most anticipated events around the Caribbean.
But it takes money to put together a successful event and, just one month before the final selection the Dominica Festival Committee (the body charged with organizing the festival) has very little money. With just a EC$100,000 from the Government and another 100 thousand from the sponsor Digicel; it’s a long way from the US$1.5 millions the DFC say is needed for a successful event.
This could place the organizers between the proverbial rock and hard place.
